Rig In A Box – Part 2

Hi everyone,

I think I completed my rig in a box setup and I’m very satisfied by the final result. If you red my previous post you know that I’m trying to have a complete setup in a Pelican 1200 case.

The setup was already good but needed some refinement and that’s what I’ve done those days.

Now everything is cabled so that the only thing that I have to do is attach the KX3 to an antenna, turn on the KX3 itself and the Nexus 7 2013 tablet.

I’ll use the setup with the HyEndFed QRP antenna on a 10m DX-Wire portable mast but inside the Pelican 1200 there’s a WonderLoop antenna and I finally I’ve been able to find a nice way to attach it solidly to the case when I want to use it. I made a small hole on the back of the WonderLoop and places a small nut inside so that I can then use a lock it with a screw using one of the holes in the Pelican case, that are meant to be used with a lock. Tested today and it works well. Solid and I only added the weight of a screw + nut to the setup 😉

Here are a few pictures of the setup:

When in use the cover of the SideKX becomes a sort of small table perfect to place the Palm Mini Mono paddle.

The actual setup includes:

  • Elecraft KX3 with SideKX with cover
  • Nexus 7 2013 tablet (with KX3 Companion!) 😀
  • Repoo E6300 bluetooth keyboard
  • Elecraft MH3 Microphone
  • 10mAh 9v/12v Battery for KX3
  • 2.8 mAh 8 AA Rechargeable batteries
  • 14mAh 5v Battery for Nexus 7 and/or BT keyboard
  • Elecraft KXUSB cable
  • 2 audio cables for audio in/out with splitter for Nexus 7
  • OTG cable
  • WonderLoop antenna with adapters and short RG58 cable
  • Palm Mini Mono Paddle

Total weight (case included): 4.1 Kg

I hope you like the setup and if you have any idea to improve it let me know. Also if you want to share your, please send me pictures so that I can publish them to inspire other people.
